George Michael “Mike” Wood, 65, of Corpus Christi, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 18, 1960, in Kingsville, Mike built a life defined by hard work, kindness, laughter, and a deep love for his family.
Mike graduated from Carroll High School and soon after began a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. He devoted 30 years to Maverick Recycling, formerly known as H & H Iron and Metal, where he earned the respect of coworkers and friends alike. Mike was known not only for his reliability and determination but for the kindness he showed everyone he met.
To those who knew him best, Mike was happiest outdoors, hunting at sunrise, fishing at daybreak, watching the Cowboys lose in the evening or spending time with his family. One of his favorite memories was a fishing trip to Colorado where, as he proudly told it, he out-fished everyone, including Gregg. It was a story he loved to share, especially when reminding Greg that he always managed to catch “just one more.”
Above all else, Mike loved his family. He was a hardworking man who showed his love through quiet strength, steady support, and simple moments together. His kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Dayton Wood; his mother, Anice Louise Grabbs; his stepfather, Gene Grabbs; his stepmother, Peggy Wood; his stepbrothers, James and David Grabbs; and his son, John Michael Wood.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Amy Wood(Tori Rhein); his siblings, Debbie Wood, Bill Wood(Denise Wood), Jimmy Wood; his step siblings, Kimberly House, Twala Wright, Shelia Scott, Mike Faucett; his life long brothers from another mother, Brooks Howard(Diane Howard), Greg Howard(Michelle Howard); along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at Funeraria del Angel located at 4901 Everhart Rd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78411.
Mike will be remembered for his warm heart, steady hands, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His legacy lives on in the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the stories that will be told for generations to come.
