

Gilbert R. Garza, 74 of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009.He retired from the CCAD after 33 years of dedicated service. Gilbert proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and he volunteered effortlessly with the Yeager Elementary “Watchdogs”. Gilbert also volunteered with the Boy Scouts Troop #289. Gilbert, along with wife, owned Le Salon Boutique. He is preceded in death by his parents, Santiago and Andrea Garza; two brothers, Freddy and Guadalupe Garza.Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Alida “Elida” Garza; son, David and Vickie Garcia; daughter, Elizabeth and Jesse Ortiz; great-grandson, Matthew Ray Ponce, who was raised by him and his wife; eight grandchildren, Linda, Brenda, Melida, Maggie, David, Jessica, J.D. and Gilbert. Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; seven siblings, Santiago, Jr., Mary, Jenny, Gloria, Blas, Aurora and Abraham; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Public visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Rites of a Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
