Guillermo Gonzalez was a man of great character and determination. Despite having to leave school to work at a young age, he never let that hold him back and worked hard to better himself, his family and his community. He was a proud United States Marine who served his country honorably during two tours of duty in the Korean War where he earned a Purple Heart.
He received his GED and used the GI Bill to study at Del Mar Junior College earning his Associates in Arts degree in 1954. He ultimately earned his bachelor’s degree in education from The University of Texas at Austin in 1956, followed by a Master of Science degree in education administration from Texas A&I in 1960. He went on to work in education for his entire career, spending the last 20 years as an assistant principal at Mary Carroll High School. He loved being a Carroll Tiger almost as much as he loved being a Texas Longhorn.
He was greatly loved by his family, especially his wife Delia and their four daughters Leti Fanning (Dave Fanning), Denise McKenna (Tom McKenna), Debi Seligmann (Rodney Seligmann), and Chrissy Gonzalez (Danny Wyatt), as well as 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 14 in the chapel at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church at 3502 Saratoga Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78415 . A rosary will begin 9:30a and mass begins at 10:00a.
