

Herbert M. Smith passed away in Corpus Christi on February 27, 2015, and was welcomed into the embrace of his heavenly Father. Bert, as many knew him, died suddenly after a short illness. He was 86. Bert was born on November 8, 1928 to the late Eugene and Ida Smith in Rio Hondo, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janis. They would have been married 64 years. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Smith, Ross Smith and John Smith.
He is survived by his son, Kenneth Smith (Mary Ellen), grandson, Austin Smith (Nicole) of Corpus Christi, granddaughter, Shannon Pruett (Bryan) of Gonzalez, Texas, and two great-grandsons, Mason and Jacob Pruett.
Bert was born and raised in Rio Hondo, Texas. He was a heavy equipment operator and worked for over 34 years with the CCWID #2 of San Benito, Texas, later moving to Corpus Christi, Texas, working as an equipment operator for Goldston Engineering.
Bert enjoyed Square Dancing, bar-b-ques, fishing and just having fun with his family and friends.
Visitation is planned for Sunday, March 1, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart, Corpus Christi, Texas. He will be transferred to Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, Texas for visitation Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas. Graveside services will be private.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the ER doctors and nursing staff at Spohn South Hospital and the staff at Garden Estates Corpus Christi.
