

James (Jim) B. Brewster, age 88, died January 31, 2022. He was born September 21, 1933, in Carrollton, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lt. Col. Delmar R. Brewster and Lois T. Brewster, his sister, Betty B. McLelland, and brother-in-law, Donald R. McLelland, of Houston, and his beloved wife of 44 years, Betty M. Brewster.
He is survived by his nieces, Cindy McLelland Hand (Stephen) of Houston and Shelly McLelland Kirkgard (Keith) of Austin, and his stepson, Larry Day (Karen) of Big Sandy, Tennessee.
He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio, Texas, in 1952. He was a proud member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1956, where he received a B.S. Degree in Geology and was a member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets.
After serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, Jim returned to Texas A&M where he received an M.S. Degree in Geology.
Jim loved the Texas Aggies and the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. He was a longtime animal lover and almost always had a cat or dog by his side. He loved geology, history, was an avid coin collector, and a profound lover of books.
Jim began his lifelong career as a geologist with Core Service, Inc. in Corpus Christi in 1961. He was V.P. of Operations when the company was sold in 1995 to Omni Laboratories, Inc. He worked as a Lab Manager for Omni until his semi-retirement in 2004. Jim enjoyed working part-time until he fully retired in December 2015.
Jim was an active member of the Corpus Christi Geological Society, where he held various offices and served as Committee Chairman at numerous geological conventions. He served on the American Petroleum Institute National Committee: “Revisions of Standards of Core Analysis.” He was also a member of the Nueces County A&M Club, the Society of Core Analysts, and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
A graveside service will he held on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Seaside Memorial Park. He is entrusted to Funeraria Del Angel-Everhart, 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.
