Jeanne Ardell Grant, 95, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at her home in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born, the fourth of eight children, in San Antonio, Texas, on May 22, 1919 to James Allfred Grant and Nellie Gollihar Grant. Although Jeanne was an attractive lady with beautiful legs, she was made of stem stuff which she rightfully inherited from her maternal grandparents, Corpus Christi pioneers, Charles Ashley Gollihar and Martha Jane Raines Gollihar. She also inherited her determination from her paternal side as a descendant of Col. William M. Kincheloe, who arrived in Texas in 1824, as one of Austin’s Old Three Hundred (the First Anglo Colony in Texas).
When Jeanne was 5 years old, her family returned to their roots in Corpus Christi. She continued to reside here for the remainder of her life. Jeanne worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator for over 30 years before retiring when she was 55. Then she became active in many projects as a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Jeanne was an intelligent woman who loved to follow the stock market and read voraciously. She was also an avid flower gardener, wonderful baker and lover of animals, especially her dog, Dolly. She loved her family and friends unconditionally.
Jeanne was predeceased in death by her parents and five brothers, Forest Grant, Merald Grant, Gerald Grant, Jack Grant and Lester Grant.
She is survived by her sister, Nellie Grant Angelle and brother, Donald Anthony Grant (Lillian), both from Corpus Christi; five nieces and three nephews as well as many great-nieces and nephew and great-great nieces and nephews.
She is now in God’s arms and will forever live in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Cage-Mills Funeral Home on Everhart Rd. form 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 with a Rosary recited at 7:00 pm that same evening.
