He was born on September 30th, 1936 to Riley Winchester and Edna Mae (Upton) Winchester of San Patricio County, the middle child of their five children.

Throughout the course of his life, "Shotgun" was a motorcycle fanatic, particularly loyal to triumph motorcycles. He will be most remembered for his participation in and appreciation for the sport of racing motorcycles-from knowing and sharing memorable stories with others, to encounters with celebrity motorcyclist, to his racing career and the many trophies he earned from such races, and to his continues support for organizations and benefits even after the conclusion of his racing career. Shotgun dedicated much of his life to the hobby and forged many friendships through his involvement in the world of racing.
In 1999 he married his current wife, Jackie, Together, they enjoyed spending time at their property in Rockdale and traveling to the Hill Country. Outside of racing, "Shotgun" was an outdoorsman: he was especially fond of animals, setting up game cameras and deer feeders at his property.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren, to whom her was proudly amd affectionately known as "Papaw." Many, many fun weekends were spent at his house, where he always made time to read to them. He especially enjoyed attending school events and recitals.
In his later years, "Shotgun" rededicated his life to Christ and was known to read his Bible daily. And, on any given Saturday morning, he could more than likely be found rummaging through items at a neighboring garage sale. "Shotgun's" legacy will always be intertwined with the impact he had on South Texas racing, both in his talent at riding and in his humble, hospitable nature as a friend to those who knew him in the community. Classics live forever.
