Jorge was born on March 9, 1955, in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, the son of Pedro Obregon and Maria Natividad Obregon Molina.
Jorge attended and graduated school in Mexico and obtained his degree in Industrial Design prior to immigrating to the United States. He later went on to earn his license as a journeyman electrician and certification in instrumentation.
Jorge married Rosa Elena Martinez Moya in Monterrey, Neuvo Leon, Mexico on December 27, 1980, in the catholic church Parroquia Santa Maria Reina de la Paz. Jorge met Rosa at the age of nineteen while coaching the women’s state soccer team in Mexico. Their friendship blossomed into true love. They started their new life together in Corpus Christi, Texas soon after their wedding and remained happily married for 44 years. Jorge and Rosa’s family grew to include three children and two grandchildren. Jorge’s pride and joy were his family. He ensured everyone knew how proud he was of his daughters, his son, his two sons-in-law, and his two grandchildren. He was a devoted and loving husband, a protecting and doting father, and a fun and cherished grandfather.
Jorge worked as a journeyman electrician for various industrial electrical contractors including Rabalais, and Zachry where he primarily worked for the electrical maintenance departments. George, as he was known to many in the field, was a diligent worker who was passionate about his craft and always willing to share his knowledge and expertise with others in his field. He was a hard worker who always lent a helping hand and went above and beyond to help his colleagues. Jorge went on to retire from the work he loved at the age of sixty-nine.
Jorge had a passion for soccer. Aside from his work and family, soccer was his life. Jorge was an extraordinarily talented soccer player and a die-hard Club Futbol Monterrey fan. Not only was he a talented player, but he was an exceptional soccer coach as well. His love for the sport led him to meet his soul mate, and later, to shape the lives of young athletes across the coastal bend region as a youth soccer coach. He was lovingly known as Coach Jorge of the famous Santa Fe League Blue Devils. Coach Jorge coached for many years and led his teams to multiple championship tournaments in his career as a soccer coach. In his later years, he went on to help coach Top Soccer, a special needs league for his son, before briefly returning to the Sante Fe League to coach the U6 division teams Silver Bullets and Ghostbusters as his grandson’s coach.
Aside from soccer, Jorge also loved fishing, cooking, singing, playing guitar, and dancing. He loved sharing his passions with others. Above all, he loved bringing joy and laughter to all. He was the life of the party no matter where he went. He was the magnet that brought everyone together. His love was demonstrated by selfless acts of giving. He always made sure all those around him were cared for and would prioritize all before himself. He was a jokester through and through. He kept his positive outlook on life all the way to his end.
Remaining to cherish Jorge’s memory are his wife, Rosa Elena Martinez Moya; his children Rosa Elena (Hans) Obregon, Cynthia (Juan) Martinez, and Jorge Alberto Obregon, Jr.; his grandchildren Juan Manuel Martinez Jr., and Alexis Martinez; and his brothers Juan Obregon Obregon, Felipe Obregon Obregon, and Pedro Obregon Obregon along with all his loving nieces and nephews.
