Jose Maria Barrera Jr.

Jose also known as “Joe” worked with Coca Cola Co. early in his life before he became an electrician. He started out with Bodine Electric, then Clements Electric. He worked very hard in life and was determined to get his Master’s license to make his dream come true. Joe always talked about one day having his own business and he did; Joe’s Electric Company. Joe’s Electric was in business for 26 years and served the entire Coastal Bend. He leaves behind his teaching of always keeping busy, maintaining a high work ethic and pursuing your dreams and goals. He will always be remembered for saying, “No aye tiempo para gastar, ponle compa!”

Joe is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Maria R. Barrera, a daughter, Pura Barrera- Cantú, and a son, Joe M. Barrera III.

Joe is survived by his children Aurora B. (Ruben) Garcia of Orange Grove, Texas, Jose Roberto (Margarita) Barrera and Jackie (Esiquil) Garcia, both of Mathis, Texas and 11 grandchildren; Monica Marie Garcia, Ruben Garcia, Jr., Erica Ann Cantú, Amanda Lynn Barrera, Alejandra Arie Barrera, Joe M. Barrera IV, Adriana Arianna Barrera, Amanda Jo Barrera, Neve Barrera, Klarissa Garcia and Kailey Garcia. Also surviving is his sister Alicia B. (Jorge) Reyes of Corpus Christi and brothers, Marcelino “Blackie” (Mary) Barrera and Robert (late- Maggie) Barrera of Robstown, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving family and friends at Memory Gardens at 8200 Old Brownsville Road on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 4:00 to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
