Saturday, December 15, 2012, we lost the guiding light and love of our lives, our hero and father. Jesus was a great example as a provider, father, husband, grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a meek, humble and soft spoken man, but he made himself known in conversation and jokes. He was never known to speak ill of anyone.
Jesus was born to Antonio Gatica and Felicita Rodriguez Gatica, on December 21, 1917 in Buda, TX. He worked on the family farm until he married the love of his life Zulema (Cuellar) Gatica, his wife of 68 years. Jesus always worked a full time job and a side job; one of his hobbies was making patio wooden gliders, which he also sold and gave away. He provided us with all we needed.
Jesus was preceded in death by his son Jesus Jr.; daughter, Irma Medina; sisters, Leonencia De Los Santos and Sarah Gatica; brothers, Perfecto Gatica, Sebastian Gatica, Eustacio Gatica, Manuel Gatica and Antonio Gatica.
Left to cherish his memory are; his wife Zulema C. Gatica; daughters, Donna (Michael) Ballesteros, Dianna (Roland) Paz and Olga Gatica of Des Moines, Iowa; his sons, Hector (Roseanna) Gatica of Lansing, Michigan, Ruben Gatica of Corpus Christi, Juan Gatica of Lansing Michigan and Jaime (Janie) Gatica; son-in-law, Richard Medina; brother Jose (Maria) Gatica and blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as many friends.
Our father would have wanted to thank the doctors that provided care and hospital personnel at Spohn Shoreline, who took great care of him.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 20, 2012, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that same evening at Funeraria del Angel – 549 Cheyenne Street. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
