Margaret (Maggie, Granny) Cloud will be remembered for her beautiful smile, delightful sense of humor, devotion to family and determined spirit. She passed away July 12, 2017, just 5 months shy of her 100th birthday and outlived all of her brothers and sisters even though she was first born.
Margaret was born at home in the small West Texas town of Novice on December 14, 1917, to Henry and Alice (McDonald) Weddle. Being the oldest of 8 children she grew up with responsibility early on and cooked, cared for and loved all of her siblings. When Maggie was 16 she met the love of her life, Alvin Cloud, and they married October 6, 1934 and traveled the oil field circuits in the USA until settling in Corpus Christi. Margaret was a marvelous homemaker, talented seamstress, fine cook (especially pineapple upside down cake, oatmeal cookies and enchiladas) and an extremely devoted mother. There was never an activity for either of her children that she was not seated on the front row. She loved to bowl, dance, play Bridge and all kind of games. The Clouds love to compete and Granny stepped right up with spirit and grit! Margaret was also a consummate baseball fan and devoted to her beloved Texas Rangers.
Three of Margaret and Alvin’s 5 children were born with Rh factor and passed away in infancy. Maggie remained faithful and steadfast through it all and a loving caretaker to Alvin who suffered with diabetes for many years. Her determination and resilience has been inspirational to all who have had the privilege to know her.
Alvin passed in 1987 after 53 years of marriage and Margaret relocated to Keller, Texas, to be near her family. She lived well into her 90’s in her own apartment before moving into her daughter’s home. She loved living with the Hendersons until more specialized care was required in late 2016. At that time, she became a resident of Mustang Creek Estates until her passing.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Rosalie Henderson, Keller, Texas, son Curtis (Judy) Cloud, Fulshear, Texas. 6 Grandchildren: Dayna (Cruz) Stephan, Kendra (Wayne) Barksdale and Sharla (Jose) Wyatt all of Keller, Texas and Curt (Amy) Cloud, Rosenberg, Texas, Casey (Kelly) Cloud, Richmond, Texas, Brandi Cloud (Sugar Land, Texas) and their mother, Linda Cloud of Sugar Land; 7 great grandchildren: Jason (Farrah) Dickens, Randy (Heather) Wyatt, Brenna Mata, Caitlin, Cooper, Chase and Tate Cloud and 3 great, great grandchildren: Taylor and Kendall Dickens and Brandyn Wyatt and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alvin, her parents Henry and Alice Weddle, 7 brothers and sisters, 3 infant children, her son-in-law Don Henderson and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special thanks to Mustang Creek Estates in Keller for their care and love of Margaret and to the Custom Care Hospice angels in her final days.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held privately by her family.
The family suggests memorials in Margaret’s memory to Custom Care Home Health & Hospice, 6606 LBJ Freeway, Suite 110, Dallas, TX 75240 or a charity of choice.
Granny ~ We will ALL cherish and love you forever!
