Fair winds and following seas set Mark Elton Guinn Sr., a.k.a. Kaptain Kidd and Marcus Dundee on his final voyage into the cosmic seas on his prized sailboat the Sissy Gale II. His life came to an abrupt end at 55 years on March 18, 2011, while residing in Flour Bluff, Texas. He was born August 31, 1955 in Port Arthur, Texas to Albert Lee Guinn, Sr. and wife Eleanor Ann. As a child he lived in Port Arthur, Panama, and Port Lavaca with his older brother Lee, older sister Gale, and younger brother Greg. Mark then lived in Dripping Springs, Dallas, Houston, Prairie Lea, Wimberley, and lastly Corpus Christi, where he met the love of his life and soul mate Carol Bush. He was a skilled carpenter, and while using Texas ingenuity he often crafted useful inventions for friends and family. Mark was a member of the Matagorda Bay Pilots, and as Kaptain Kidd he was the founding buccaneer of the Pirates of the Laguna Madre. He sailed locally, throughout the Caribbean, and once sailed on a trip to circumnavigate the globe. He was a talented musician as a guitarist and singer, and often incorporated everyone into his soulful songs at his large drum parties. He also was an avid fisherman, productive gardener, master joke teller, and a great friend to many. He is survived by: wife Carol Bush, son Mark Elton Guinn, Jr. and Mark Jr.’s fiancé Stacey Barnett, daughter Melody Ann Nava and husband Genaro Nava, grandchildren Julia Catherine and Jason Gadiel Nava, siblings Albert Lee Guinn Jr., Audrey Gale Gassiot, and Robert Gregory Guinn, many dear family members and friends, dogs Rita, Bubba, Tuffy, and one-eyed Parrot Rojo. His farewell service will be held near the Port Aransas Jetty at his favorite childhood surf spot on the late afternoon of April 23, 2011. The moon is full and the tide is turning - so un-reef the main, let out the jib, and set sail downwind wing-on-wing. Bon voyage! To offer your condolences visit us at: www.cage-mills.com
