Melanie Lynn Canedo, age 67, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on October 26, 2024. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 23, 1957, to parents Robert Wayne Shockley and Ingrid Lee Shockley (Fisher).
In 1974, Melanie graduated from Irvington High School in Fremont, California. She went on to marry Juan Canedo on October 3, 1981, until their eventual separation in 2001. Together, they had two beautiful daughters, Molly and Sherri. Melanie continued her education and graduated from Simpson College in 2003 and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Human Resources Management. In 2007, she received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Melanie worked for Blood Donor Recruitment and as a Co-Op Representative for the Education Service Center (ESC2) until her eventual retirement in 2022.
Melanie was also a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Her close relationship with the Lord allowed her to show great resiliency and strong will as she navigated challenges in her life. Her devout faith has provided peace to the family as they know she is dancing in the streets of Heaven.
Melanie was a fearless woman and fought through the challenges of her life while maintaining her career and continuing her education. She was the definition of strength and was a living example of independence for her two daughters. Before being hindered by the chronic pain brought by fibromyalgia, Melanie led her girls fearlessly and proved she could do anything except drive a motorboat. She was fiercely independent and strong, all while loving her family and supporting them all in every way imaginable. Her example of selfless love has united their family and will live on through their future generations.
Melanie is reunited with her parents, Robert Wayne Shockley and Ingrid Lee Shockley; and brother, Philip Wayne Shockley. Melanie leaves her memories to her children, Molly (Nolan) Martin and Sherri (Stan Seel) Canedo; four granddaughters whom she loved beyond measure, Katelyn Canedo, Shelby, Natalie, and Makenna Martin; as well as her church family, numerous members of extended family, and friends.
Melanie’s family would like to extend their gratitude to her church family at Grace Presbyterian for all their support through this unexpected loss.
The family will be holding a Memorial Celebration to honor Melanie at 6 PM on November 14, 2024, at Grace Presbyterian Church.
