

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Natividad "Nati" Salinas Alaniz, a beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and trailblazing community leader, who passed away on November 19, 2024 at the age of 92.
Born on December 20, 1931, in Benavides, Texas, Nati was the proud daughter of Fernando and Ignacio Salinas. A graduate of Corpus Christi High School and Roy Miller High School, Nati cultivated a deep love for her community and dedicated her life to public service and civic leadership.
Nati was the cherished wife of the late Johnny Alaniz, former Constable of Precinct One. Together, they shared a remarkable journey of service to Nueces County. Their commitment to the community lives on in their children, Robert Lee Alaniz and Laura Jean Chaffin, their eight grandchildren, and eleven great- grandchildren.
Nati blazed trails for women and Hispanic leaders in Nueces County throughout her life. She made history as the first Hispanic president of the Southside Lioness Club and the first female president of the North American Senior Citizens Club. Her leadership extended to numerous organizations, including the Golden Girls Club, the Hi Fairnessee Girls Club, and many others. She passionately advocated for youth, education, and senior citizens, supporting organizations like the Prima Debs Girls Club and the Coastal Bend Council of Governments. Nati's impact on civic life matched her significant contributions to politics. She was a proud member and Chaplain of the Democratic Club, Tejano Democratic Club, and Mexican American Democratic Club. In 1997, Nati was elected Constable of Precinct One, becoming the first Mexican American woman to hold the position in Nueces County. Her wisdom and integrity made her a respected figure whose endorsement was highly valued by regional candidates.
Beyond her professional achievements, Nati's boundless love, warmth, and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She was a lifelong member of the Hi Fairnessee Girls Club, where she organized reunions and milestone celebrations to keep the community connected. Nati was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Amparo Cardenas, and her beloved husband, Johnny Alaniz. Her children survive her, Robert Lee Alaniz, Rosy Alaniz, John Chaffin, and Laura Jean Chaffin, as well as her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her legacy of love, service, and resilience. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many individuals and organizations she touched throughout her extraordinary journey.
A celebration of Nati Alaniz's remarkable life will be held Sunday, November 24, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Everhart, 4901 Everhart Rd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78411. A funeral mass will occur Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3502 Saratoga Blvd., Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A burial will occur Monday, November 25, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX.
