Patricia “Pat” Byrd, 91, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. She was born in Clarkwood, TX on March 10, 1933, to Allen and Esther Goodlett (Big Daddy and Monk Momma). Pat graduated from Robstown High in 1950. She married William “Bill” Clawson in 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In 1968, Pat went to work for the Navy Publications, printing training books and copying publications for the military. She was a hard and diligent worker and at the time of her retirement in 1993, she had achieved the position of “Director of Navy Publications”. There was no ‘slow button’ for her.
She was a devoted Christian and attended church wherever she lived. She was a member of Grace Community Church until she moved to the Solstice Place Assisted Living Community.
0Pat was a very active woman throughout her adult life. She enjoyed waterskiing, fishing, bowling, and dancing. She never missed a football game when her sons were playing-the boys may not have heard the coach, but they definitely could hear their mom! Gene remembers her grabbing the referee after a game and giving him a piece of her mind due to his bad calls. She could be a pistol at times, but most of the she was easy-going and always thinking of others.
Her first husband, Bill, passed away in 1995. In 1999, she married T Byrd. They loved to travel, dance, garden and family time. After T Byrd passed away in 2016 she was lonely and so missed companionship. Her sons, Billy and Gene, convinced her to move into Solstice Place; both boys were in the doghouse for a couple of weeks! But Pat, being Pat, started fitting right in. She played Bingo three times a week and had no qualms telling the boys NOT to come visit during Bingo hours. Each day she would dress up as if she was going out.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther Clawson; first husband, Bill Clawson (1995); second husband, T Byrd (1999); eldest son, Allen Clawson; sisters, Catherine, Lavern, and Norma; and brother, Gilbert.
Pat is survived by her sons, Gene Edward Clawson (Nora Acevedo), and William “Billy” Clawson (Glenda Clawson); grandchildren, Jeremy Clawson, Billy Joe Clawson, Curtis Clawson, Christopher Clawson, Crystal Woodard, and Amber Clawson; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patricia enjoyed her 91 years of life. She has got her wings and soared to heaven to reunite with her heavenly family.
A visitation for Patricia will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415.
