She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Marilyn Baranski, nephew Daniel Gorges, son Alan Sims, and grandson Kevin Mitchell.
Rae Jean was beautiful, inside and out, and always reminded everyone that she “used to be Gorges”. She had an adventurous heart and shared many childhood memories such as canoeing in the river at age 5 with her favorite cousin, Ray John. She was loved by so many for her kindness, generosity, and wit. Her talents included being an avid artist, crafter, and accomplished pianist. She loved animals. For 45 years she practiced as a skilled and respected registered nurse, loved by patients, coworkers, and doctors. She loved her family dearly and they all cherished their Mamaw. Alzheimer’s disease robbed her of her last years, and her family is thankful that she is no longer suffering from pain or sadness and her body and mind are whole again. Rae Jean loved dancing and now she is dancing with the angels.
She leaves behind many who loved her dearly including her two daughters, Jeri Lynn (Richard) Mitchell and Janice Rae Giggleman. She will be greatly missed by many, including her brother Charles (Cheryl) Gorges; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Mitchell, Benjamin Sims, David Sims, Katie (Wes) McKinney and Jillian Giggleman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren whom she adored.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
