He was born in Corpus Christi, TX, on September 3, 1948. He graduated from Carroll High School and Del Mar College with a degree in Welding.
He married Maria Elena Villarreal on October 14, 1972, in Raymondville, Texas.
Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were our ‘go to’ when life got rough, and our comfort when we needed clarity. You were always someone we could count on. Because of you, we have the hearts of a lion, the love of our family and insane work ethic.
He had a passion for his love of parrots. He spent his happiest times showing them off by taking them with him to the beach and would let people take pictures with these parrots.
One of his biggest accomplishments was being a grandfather. He always considered himself lucky to have 4 grandchildren. He was always there to support them at their basketball, soccer, football, track, and softball games. He would proudly wear their school gear to show how proud he was.
He loved the outdoors and family vacations. He would take the family camping every summer to Garner State Park. Best camping memories often included waking up in a tent to a sunrise, cooking over an open flame, hiking to find the cave, riding the paddle boats, and attending the night dances at the pavilion.
He is preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Maria Elena Rodriguez. His son-in-law, Luis Olivo. His siblings, Oscar Rodriguez and Memo Rodriguez. His parents, Antonio and Juanita Rodriguez.
He is survived by his children, Ruby Rodriguez Olivo and Raul Rudy (Jennifer Rodriguez), his nephew, Oscar Edward Rodriguez, and his grandchildren, Aidan Olivo, Aleena Olivo, Mariah Rodriguez, and Rudy Andrew Rodriguez.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Cimarron Nursing & Rehab for their excellent care and patience with him because he did not want to be there. We are profoundly grateful to all our family and friends for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
You may be gone from our sight, Dad, but you'll never be gone from our soul!
