

Raymond Nelson Sims died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 27, 2016. Ray was born in Montebello, California on January 1, 1924 to parents Morton Ernest Sims and Ingeborg Nelson Sims. He was raised on a farm outside of Los Angeles, California and graduated from Compton High School. Ray joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed at NAS Corpus Christi where he met and fell in love with Bobbye Mayfield. After they married in 1946, they moved to California where Ray attended the University of Southern California. Upon moving back to Corpus Christi, Ray was an insurance claims adjuster before building Colonia del Rey R.V. Park in 1972. He also started Colonia del Rey R.V. Sales. Ray and Bobbye were lifelong members of First United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Bobbye Sims and survived by his two children Ernest Sims (Wanda), Carolyn Sims Barecky (James), five grandchildren, Chris Barecky, Drew Barecky, Diane Southall (Matthew), Brian Sims (Gail), Melissa Sims; five great grandchildren, Zachary and Cassidy Barecky, Luke and Cooper Southall and Juliette Sims.
The family expresses our sincere thanks to primary caregiver, Elva De Leon and Christina Romano and all the gracious and caring staff at the Plaza at the Mirador. We also want to thank Dr. Orel Everett and his staff at Thomas Spann Clinic.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Cage Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Cage Mills Funeral Director with interment at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
