Born on December 6, 1935, in Robstown, TX, to Julio and Christina Yrlas, he was 85 years old when he passed peacefully at his home surrounded with the love and prayers of his family.
A midterm graduate of Roy Miller High School in 1955, he immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. While on leave and visiting home, he met the love of his life, Maria Eulalia Garza Reyna, while at a High School Sock Hop at the Memorial Coliseum. They married on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1960 (61 years). Their love brought forth a daughter, JoAnn, and a son, Raynaldo Jr.
He retired as Master Sergeant after 30 years in the Air Force, Active and Reserves. He also retired from Civil Service, employed as a Calibration Tech at NAS-Army Depot.
Besides being an avid and poetic writer, he enjoyed coin collecting, loved old time music, shows and movies, fixing electronics and WWII history. He enjoyed spending time with his friends from youth, Los Traqueros, his buddies from the 50’s Club and Air Force Reunions, but most of all dancing the night away with his beautiful wife. A God-fearing man, he truly lived the command to “love neighbor as yourself.” (Mk 12:31) He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 540 Hiawatha St., where services will be held.
He is preceded in death by his father, Julio Yrlas Silvas; mother, Christina Gutierrez; brother, Luis Puentes, and sister, Eulalia Puentes.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Eulalia Yrlas; daughter, JoAnn Yrlas; son, Very Rev. Raynaldo Yrlas, Jr.; grandson, Roberto Alejandro Yrlas Mendoza (Toni); sister, Elma Nichols, and several nephews and nieces.
Special thanks to Dr. Mark Strauss and the Staff at Thomas Spann Clinic, ICU Staff at Bay Area Hospital and Angel Bright Hospice for the compassion and care given to him and to our family.
