

On May 27, 2012, at the age of 84, Rene Lucas Chapa fell asleep in death in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born in George West, Texas on December 8, 1927 to Lucio Chapa, Jr. and Margarita Garcia Chapa.
He was a beloved member of the Rodd Field Spanish Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, having been baptized on August 1, 1975. He enjoyed visiting people and teaching the Bible to his friends and neighbors. His construction skills were put to great use in building Kingdoms Halls in Corpus Christi and the South Texas area.
Although he grew up in the Live Oak County Texas farming and ranching environment, riding his beloved horse, Indio, he was employed by Heldenfels Brothers from whom he retired in 1992 as a Project Superintendent after more than 40 years of service.
He was predeceased by his wife, Roberta Rangel of Ben Bolt, Texas; his brother, Ruben Chapa and sister, Lydia Chapa Duken, both of San Antonio, Texas.
Survivors include his sons, Rene Chapa, Jr., and his wife Mary Frances of Corpus Christi, Texas and Robert L. Chapa and his wife Sydney of McDade, Texas; brothers, Roy Chapa and his wife Rachel of San Antonio, Texas, Romeo Chapa of Houston, Texas, Roel Chapa and his wife Emma of George West, Texas, Lucio Chapa III and his wife Margaret of Ottumwa, Iowa; sisters, Ludi Chapa Hernandez and her husband Frank of San Antonio, Texas, Lucy Chapa Castillo and her husband Daniel of Harlingen, Texas, Lucille Chapa Yzaguirre and her husband Salvador of Kyle, Texas. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Abigail M. Chapa, Ted R. Chapa and his wife Kathryn, Jeremias Chapa and his wife Vanessa all of Corpus Christi, Texas, Ariel Chapa of Leander, Texas, Karesa Chapa Browder and her husband Nathan of Cedar Creek, Texas, and beloved nephew and nieces too numerous to be mentioned.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm with a talk a 7:00 pm that evening. The memorial service will be on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 10:30 am at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
