
Robert W. “Bob” Woolsey passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013. He was born to V.G. & Elouise Woolsey on March 7, 1928. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1945 and attended Del Mar College and Southern Methodist University. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949 and the Juris Doctor degree in 1950. At SMU Bob was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and as a student wrote for the SMU Law Journal. Upon his return to Corpus Christi he joined the law firm of Kleberg, Mobley, Lockett & Weil.
In 1951 Bob volunteered for service as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corp. He served in Korea and Okinawa in the JAG section. In 1954 he returned to practicing Admiralty and Martitime law until his retirement in December, 1996. He was a Proctor member of the Maritime Law Association of U.S.; a member of the Federation of Insurance Counsel and authored an article in its Journal.
All of his life Bob was deeply involved with his church. He was baptized into the First Methodist Church on Easter Sunday 1929 and confirmed into its membership on Easter Sunday 1938. He sang in its choir for 65 years, taught and led singing in all of its adult Sunday School classes at one time or another; was on all major boards and committees, frequently serving as chair. Beyond the local church he served on the Southwest Texas Conference of United Methodist Church Board of Pensions, Council of Finance and Administration and began to serve on the Board of Trustees.
Bob is survived by his wife Wyona Lange Woolsey, children R. Michael Woolsey and Susan Kavanaugh, his “bonus” children Wyona brought to their union, Jerry Ellison, Sr., four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Great Granddaughter Ashley Iacono and “bonus” daughter Joan Bennett. All of whom he greatly loved.
A memorial service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The family will greet guests at a reception in Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to First United Methodist Church, 900 S. Shoreline, Corpus Christi, Texas or a charity of your choice.
