Rodolfo Flores Valenzuela entered into his eternal rest with the Lord on April 9, 2026 at the age of 89. He was born on December 17, 1936 in Corpus Christi, Texas to parents, Delfina Flores and Jose Valenzuela. Rodolfo was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather whose life was rooted in love, family, and a passion for the game of golf.
After graduating from Roy Miller High School in 1956, Rodolfo proudly served his country in the United States Army. He entered service on June 7, 1956, and completed two years of honorable service. During his time in the military, he served in the 82nd Air Borne Division, he earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Parachutist Badge, reflecting his discipline, commitment, courage and was promoted to a Corporal . After his honorable discharged, Rodolfo served his community as a firefighter for 31 years. He later continued working at the Corpus Christi International Airport as a peace officer and firefighter a role that reflected his courage, dedication, and willingness to serve others. In all that he did, he carried a giving spirit, always making sure to provide for his family and be present in their lives.
At the heart of Rodolfo’s life was a love story that began at a young age. He met the love of his life, Guadalupe Piña, in the sixth grade. Admiring her from afar, he eventually made a bold and unforgettable gesture—singing to her in front of others to express his feelings while performing at the talent show. What began as a friendship grew into a lifelong partnership, and following their high school graduation, they were married on January 2, 1957. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion, often found dancing side by side to oldies music, rarely leaving the dance floor without each other.
Rodolfo’s greatest joy was his family. He believed deeply in staying close and creating lasting memories together. Holidays held a special place in his heart, especially Christmas, when he brought everyone together in celebration, love, and tradition.
After his wife and family, Rodolfo’s greatest passion was golf. He was an accomplished player who earned numerous trophies over the years and remained deeply involved in the sport. For 75 years, starting at the age of 14, he was a dedicated member of the Pan American Golf Association, where he made a lasting impact. He helped establish and grow junior golf programs in Corpus Christi Chapter, contributing to the development of what would become a national junior league for the PAGA. His commitment to mentoring young golfers was so meaningful that a trophy was created in his honor, The Rudy Valenzuela Trophy. Rodolfo also played a key role in creating the Junior Golf Clinic in Corpus Christi, held every Saturday in June and open to children ages six through eighteen—with no child ever turned away. Through this program, he helped teach the fundamentals of the game, from driving to chipping and putting, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to learn and grow. His dedication helped shape countless young lives both on and off the course.
In his quieter moments, Rodolfo enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros, cheering on his team with the same enthusiasm he brought to everything he loved.
He will be reunited in heaven with his parents, Delfina and Jose Valenzuela; daughter, Ana Liza Salgado; son, Rudy Lionel Valenzuela; granddaughter, Jeanmarie Torres; brothers, Ceferino Valenzuela, Oscar Valenzuela, Jose Angel Valenzuela and Frank Valenzuela.
