

Roger C. Frank, Jr., known as “Red” to family and friends, passed from this earth February 10, 2012 in Corpus Christi, Texas from complications due to Alzheimer’s. He was 90. He is preceded in death by his parents Roger C. Frank, Sr. and Elizabeth Moores Frank, wife Dorothy Alice Remote Frank, and brother Ralph W. Frank. He is survived by his brother Raymond Frank of Calallen, sons Roger of Austin, and John of Corpus Christi, grandchildren Travis Frank of Round Rock and Krista Frank Gooding of San Marcos.
Red was born in Hillsboro, Texas on April 15, 1921. He grew up in Chapman Ranch and Corpus Christi, graduating from Corpus Christi High School and Del Mar Junior College. Red was a WWII veteran, having served in the Navy as musician and seaman aboard the carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. After the war, he graduated from Texas A&I in Kingsville and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder. He married Dorothy in 1946 and began a 40 year career in public education, serving mainly as a principal for various elementary schools including (locally) Austin Elementary, Yeager, and J.A. Garcia. He retired in 1989.
Red loved Dorothy, his sons, and sailing on coastal bays and marinas. He was a local musician for many years, a member of Phi Delta Kappa honor society, past commander of the Corpus Christi Power Squadron, and a Harris Fellow of the Corpus Christi Rotary Club. Red was known for being decent and generous having adopted the “golden rule” as his moral compass. After the passing of Dorothy, his wife of 44 years, he remained active in education by becoming an 18 year full-time volunteer for KEDT, where he earned numerous awards for his volunteer efforts.
Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors located at 4901 Everhart Road, Corpus Christi, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Red’s memory be made to KEDT. Per Red’s wishes, his ashes along with Dorothy’s will be interred at Lamar Cemetery in Rockport, Texas.
