Ruben Gutierrez, 77, of Corpus Christi, Texas, went home to be with his Lord on January 14, 2022. Ruben was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on July 27, 1944 to Ricardo and Carmen Gutierrez. He was a graduate of Roy Miller High School, Battlin Buc Class of 1962.
Ruben enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1963 and served as a Canine Handler in Vietnam from 1967-1968.
After his military service, Ruben became a LVN at Memorial Medical Center. This is where he met the love of his life, Helen Gutierrez. They married on June 6, 1975. They were happily married and always together for 41 years until her death in 2016. He worked in the ER for many years at Memorial Medical Center and later worked as a home health nurse until his retirement.
Ruben was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was involved with the Parish Counsel, Eucharistic Ministers, Alter Servers and the school PTO. He made many lifelong friends during this time.
Ruben enjoyed time with his family and time outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. But his greatest pride and joy was his two grandchildren, Juliana and Patrick Gutierrez.
Ruben is proceeded in death by his wife, Helen Gutierrez; parents, Ricardo and Carmen Gutierrez; brother, Mike Gutierrez; sister, Yolanda (Leon) Ruiz; and son, Ruben (Robert Salas) Rodriguez. He was survived by his dedicated sons, Father Richard Gutierrez and Roel (Jessica) Gutierrez; grandchildren, Juliana and Patrick Gutierrez; brother, Rudy (Josie) Gutierrez; and numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2509 Nogales, on Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 5 pm to 9 pm. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Holy Family Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Committal to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
