Rumalda Sanchez San Miguel

She was born January 1, 1920 in La Gloria, TX near Falfurrias. She was the first born to Jose and Petra Sanchez and was preceded in death by all her sisters, Maria Garza, Antonia Perez, Elida Cadena and Minerva Rodriguez. She married Fructoso San Miguel from Premont, TX in 1939 then moved to Corpus Christi where they lived a fruitful life as parents of four children: Fred San Miguel (Norma), Lucy Contreras, Esther Patterson-Vela (Armando) and Patsy San Miguel. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy, her beloved husband after 60 years of marriage, and her sons-in-law Sidney Patterson and Frederick Contreras.

Ruby was a gracious lady of many talents with determination that contributed to the welfare of her family. She was a renowned seamstress, able to design and create anything from a pot holder to a wedding dress. She was recognized by many who learned to sew when she taught sewing classes at her neighborhood community center. Ruby loved working with flowers: in her garden, making arrangements and decorating at social events.

As a Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She and her husband later became parishioners of St. Pius X Catholic Church where she helped with the preparation of Memorial Dinners and Rummage Sales. They were members of the Mr.& Mrs. Social Club enjoying dancing and raising funds or toys for children in need.

Along with her children, Ruby is survived by her grandchildren: Frederick (Freddie) Contreras, Jr. (Belle) and Patricia Ann Contreras. As the sole survivor of her four sisters and sixteen in-laws, she is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will have visitation from 12 noon until the Rosary and Funeral Mass begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. Pius Catholic Church with interment following at Rose Hill Cemetery.
