Salvador V. Sanchez Sr. was born on October 13, 1931 in Genoa, TX (now downtown Houston) to father Longino Valdez and mother Ignacia Sanchez. He had several siblings. He and his family lived in Mexico for many years until he returned to Texas at the age of 14. He went up to the 8th grade and quit school to work as a field worker in order to help provide for his family. He made his way to Corpus Christi, which he would call home.
As a young adult he was a very hard worker and he contributed to the construction of the Harbor Bridge. For the most part of his adult life, he worked in the food industry. He worked in high class establishments such as Nueces Club, Mustang Club, and Petroleum Club.
In his later years he worked for Andy’s Kitchen, where he retired after fifteen years. He loved billiards and baseball. He especially enjoyed his time at the senior center playing pool, and having morning coffee and conversation with his buddies. His favorite pastime was watching baseball, and spending time with his family. He loved to do projects, read, sell wares at the “pulga” and work on the yard. He enjoyed history, and loved playing slot machines. He was charismatic, witty, and always telling jokes. He had a strong faith in God, and a powerful testimony. He was loved and cherished, and the light of our lives.
