With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Lacour Castro, 78, of Corpus Christi, Texas, who left us on May 8, 2025. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will forever be remembered for her warmth, her love, and her selflessness.
Born on December 16, 1946, to her loving parents, Pazetta Beaudion and Joseph M. Lacour. Shirley’s journey in life was marked by devotion to those she cared for. A proud graduate of Carroll High School, she dedicated herself to a life of service and compassion, spending 30+ years working at the State School, where she touched countless lives with her unwavering care for the children she served.
Shirley was a parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church, where she found peace and joy in attending mass with her family. She also gave her time to support the Boy Scouts, sharing her heart with those around her whenever she could. Her love for life extended beyond the walls of the church and school. Shirley had a deep passion for the outdoors, especially fishing and boating with her beloved husband, Charles. Together, they shared countless memories on the water, their bond growing ever stronger with each passing year.
One of Shirley’s greatest joys was cooking—her kitchen was a place where love and tradition came together in every meal. She passed down her culinary gifts to her children, who now carry on her passion for creating delicious meals that bring families together. Her legacy of love, laughter, and food will live on in their hearts and kitchens.
Shirley’s love for her family was unconditional. She cherished every moment with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. She had a unique way of making everyone feel special, whether through a shared meal, a listening ear, or a simple word of encouragement. Shirley’s spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. In her quieter moments, Shirley enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like playing her favorite games or scratching off lottery tickets—each small joy was another reminder of her appreciation for life’s little treasures.
She is deeply missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Pazetta Lacour; brothers, Danny Lacour and Michael Lacour and granddaughter, Kerry Ann Garcia.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 30 years, Charles Richard Castro; her sons, Donald Waid (Janie) Harries, Jr. and Jason Harries; daughters, Dee Ann (Joel, Jr.) Espurvoa and Pazetta (Raymond) Reyes; numerous cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Louise Garcia and brothers, James Lacour, Billy Lacour, Patrick Lacour and Kenneth Lacour.
