Susanna L Laurel

Susanna Lynn Slosson Laurel passed away peacefully at home on Monday, surrounded by family. She was a devoted Catholic, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a woman whose kindness, joy, and faith left a lasting mark on everyone she met.

Born March 9, 1945, Susanna is preceded in death by her parents, Solon Guy Slosson, Sr. and Gertrude Slosson; sisters, Patricia Carlson (Rick - deceased) and Priscilla Hopkins (John). She is survived by her siblings, Sandra White (Lloyd), Kathy Bailey (Frank), and Guy Slosson Jr (Sonya).

Susanna shared 62 years of marriage with her husband, William Ray Laurel, Sr (deceased 01/25). She brought love into the world with her four children, Willy Ray Laurel, Jr. (Tammy), Gregory Laurel (Maribel), Michelle Barter (Steve), and Tiffany Peterson (Donald). Her family grew under her care, and she became lovingly known as “Big Mama” to her 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way.

Susanna welcomed everyone with open arms. Her warmth, smile, and gentle spirit made everyone feel at home. Though we grieve her earthly absence, we celebrate the memories she left behind and the example of love, kindness, and joy she showed to all. Heaven has truly received an angel,surrounded by peace, love, and all those who went before her.

Monday,Spetember 15, 2025

Viewing will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (217 W. San Patricio Avenue, Mathis, Texas 78368), followed by a

Rosary at 12:30 p.m. and

Mass of 1:00 p.m., followed by,

Interment at 3:00PM at Memory Gardens Mausoleum (8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415).

Susanna’s grandsons—Jacob Laurel, DJ Peterson, Justin Barter, Joshua Barter, Raymond Adame, and Brayden Dennis—will serve as pallbearers, with Zachary Laurel as honorary pallbearer.
