

morning of December 11, 2010 of heart failure. He had been recovering
from a recent illness. Wes was born October 20, 1921 in Tulia, Texas.
In 1936 the family moved to Flour Bluff. Wes began school in Flour Bluff and played basketball, set a pole vaulting record, and scored the first touchdown ever scored for Flour Bluff High. He along with the few other students chose the colors, mascot, the class flower, and the class motto. The graduating class of 1940 consisted of five girls and Wes.
Wes joined the (Army) 5th Air Force in 1942. Upon returning to Corpus Christi, Wes began working as a Civil Servant for the Naval Air Station. He continued his career there until his retirement. Wes became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in 1957. He was active in supporting the church any way he was needed. He made many items for the Christmas bazaars. He always brought his wonderful smile and sense of humor to every gathering. He loved to make others laugh.
Survivors include nieces and nephew: Bill and Connie Young of Corpus Christi, Bill and Lois Hornbuckle of Bastrop, and Dale Stringer of Corpus Christi. Extended family includes: Paul and Erin Foley and their children, Emerson, Eleanor, and Jack Foley of Dallas, Keith and Ashley Loeb of Dallas, Will of Katy, Jack Wesley of San Marcos and Warren Hornbuckle of Katy.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jonathan Martin, the staff at Holmgreen and Homewood Residence, especially Tamara, Martha, Margie and other friends. We are so grateful for the love, patience, and quality of care you all gave Wes. Outstanding!
Visitation will be held at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart Road. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3915 Gollihar. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Will, Jack Wesley, Warren Hornbuckle, Paul Foley, Keith Loeb, and Bill Young.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
