William Mack Denton

Will was born September 10, 1946 in Tyler, Texas to the late Royal and Mildred Thompson Denton. After graduating from Alice High School, Will went off to study law. He completed his undergraduate studies and received his law degree from the University of Texas.

After graduating with a Juris Doctorate, he practiced law in Victoria, Texas and was in private practice for over four decades. In 2022, Will received a certificate in recognition of valuable and meritorious service as a 50 year member of the State Bar of Texas.

In 2011, Will semi-retired and spent time living in Merida, Mexico and continued traveling the world.

Will was the Victoria County Bar’s Renaissance man, with a rapier wit whose profound insights into human nature could resolve a client’s case with a single word or piercing glance. His daringly incisive remarks, accompanied by a charming smile, left no doubt that he possessed a je ne sais quoi, an indescribable intellect and gentility uncommon in course world.

When “Will the Good” was not volunteering at local hospitals, leading historic home tours, or writing theatrical productions, he was seeing the world-walking along the Great Wall of China, visiting the room where Rasputin was poisoned, floating down

the Amazon, or absorbing the architectural and art masterpieces of England and France.

Besides being a zealous advocate for clients, Will was also a constant friend and counselor to fellow attorneys. His 50 year membership in the State Bar of Texas embodied all of the ideals of the legal profession.

Will is survived by close friends Travis and Jennifer Ernst and family, Elliott and Judy Costas, “The Lunch Bunch”-Steve Cihal, Don Crawford, Rodney Durham, Travis Ernst, Brian Hendrix, and Keith Weiser, all of Victoria.

A private family moment will be held and a celebration of life will take place in Victoria at a later date with details to follow.
