Patricia Ann Mackey, age 85, of Huntington Beach, died June 3, 2025. She is survived by her loving husband, Gerald; her five children, Christine, David, Rosanne, James, and Joseph; her daughters-in law, Donna and Siobhain; her son-in-law, Jonathan; her sister, Joanne; and her beloved grandchildren, Eleanor, Aidan, Ciara, Olivia, Ronan, and Phoenix.
Pat was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 14, 1940. She moved to Southern California in 1962 where she lived until her death. Pat earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1976 from Cal State Long Beach while raising five young children as a single parent.
In 1980 Pat met the love of her life, Gerry Mackey, at the Brothers of St. Patrick in Midway City. Together, in 1988, they opened the Harp Inn in Costa Mesa which soon became a popular gathering spot and refuge and second home for immigrants from around the world. Pat and Gerry helped countless newcomers to Southern California adapt, providing a ready-made community and support system. She was willing to help anyone and everyone in need. Her generosity is remembered to this day.
Pat and Gerry retired to Fallbrook in San Diego. Pat dedicated her retirement to visiting and caring for her grandchildren. She could always be counted on to babysit Aidan and Ciara and loved driving them to school or soccer practice. She made it a priority to visit her other grandchildren in New York, Paris, or the South of France at least once a year for as long as she could. Pat was a devoted and loving grandmother and her grandchildren adored her.
Pat lived a wonderful life even during tough times. We remember Pat for her ability to touch so many people with her generosity and huge heart, her kindness, her adventurous spirit, and her wonderful cooking.
