Shirley Rose Crowe

With profound sadness the family of Shirley Rose Baker Crowe, 97, of Costa Mesa, California, announces she entered into eternal rest, on December 23, 2022.

Shirley was born June 22, 1925 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Raymond Thomas Baker, London, England and Frieda Amelia Berendt Baker, Sioux City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, LT. CMDR. Norman Harold Crowe U.S.N. RET’D, a brother Lionel Ernest Baker, a half- brother Vernon Charles Baker and a half- sister Dorothy Lucile Baker.

At an early age Shirley and her family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she resided until she married her husband Norman, October 11, 1947 and began her life as a Navy wife. During her husband’s military service of 30 years, she made multiple moves within the United States while caring for their five children and her mother who resided with the family.

Shirley was an accomplished seamstress who began her love of sewing at age five making her own doll clothes. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and crafting. She had drawing skills and liked to dabble in poetry. Shirley loved a good mystery, she read all the Sherlock Holmes novels and watched every mystery show on TV. After her husband retired and her children grown, she and her husband were able to enjoy traveling together until the passing of her husband Norman in 1987.

Those who will be left to cherish her memory are her children, 3 sons, Douglas Norman, Richard Paul and Jeffery Allan; 2 daughters Carol Ann Vivier and Cheryl Lynn Tucker; 3 grandsons, Ian Erickson, David and Michael Tucker; 1 granddaughter Caradwen Arellanes; 1 great granddaughter, Faith Erickson and 1 great grandson, Aiden Erickson; 4 nephews, Thomas, Craig, Scott and Keith Baker.

By her request there will be no services. A private burial at sea will be held by her children. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Orange County Humane Society, 21632 Newland St., Huntington Beach, CA, 92646. Cremation is under the direction of Harbor Lawn Mt. Olive Mortuary,1625 Gisler Ave., Costa Mesa, CA, 92626.
