It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Bobby—our beloved husband, dad, brother, uncle, and friend. Bob spent much of 2025 in Comox Valley Hospital, but we are grateful that his final six weeks were spent at his daughter and son-in-law’s beachside home, where he could enjoy the ocean view and the surrounding wildlife.
Bob was born in Meriden, Connecticut, to Canadian parents, Cecille and Lionel. He grew up in Canada, spending time in Northern Ontario and Quebec. In 1955, eager to “see the world,” he travelled to Plattsburgh, New York, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps—affectionately known as “Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children.” He served three years in Okinawa, Japan, and later spent 20 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve, where he proudly served as a Seabee (Construction Battalion).
In 1960, Bob married the love of his life, Helena (Babe). They shared 65 wonderful years together and raised two children, Lore and Kevin. In 2007, Bob became a Canadian citizen. He was also a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus.
Upon retirement, the family moved to the Comox Valley to enjoy the beautiful coastline. Bob loved sitting at Point Holmes with a Tim Hortons chai tea, spending time with his good friend Ken O. He also cherished the time he shared with his little buddy, Isaac A.
Bob leaves behind his wife Babe; daughter Lore (Jim); son Kevin; brother Peter (Ruth); sister Mary; brother-in-law Alan (Gilda); nieces and nephews; grandchildren Andrew, Allen, Desiree, and Danielle; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Shirley and Doris, and his brother Jonny.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and care aides on 3B and 4A at Comox Valley Hospital for their compassionate care of “Grumpy Bob.” He truly appreciated everything you did. Bob would not have been able to leave the hospital without the incredible support of his daughter, home support workers, and palliative care nurses. Thank you all.
A service will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on January 10th at 11:00 a.m.
