Cornelis "Casey" Reinerus Willebrordus van Velzen, born on April 22, 1936, in Zouterwouden, Netherlands, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 30, 2026, at the age of 89. Casey was a wise, kind-hearted, hard-working, and ambitious man who left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Casey spent many hardworking years in the logging industry on Vancouver Island. His dedication to his work and his family was evident throughout his life, career, and into his retirement.
In his personal life, Casey was married to Maria "Rita" on June 13, 1957. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1959, initially settling in Port Alberni, BC. They moved to Vernon Lake, BC, in 1966 and later to Courtenay in 1973, where they made their home.
Aside from his career, Casey had a passion for building houses, a hobby he pursued when he wasn't logging. The homes he built are cherished and remain within the family, serving as a testament to his skill and dedication.
Casey is survived by his loving spouse Maria "Rita", children Ingrid (Mikka), Ron (Kim), Rudy (Sonja), Paul, Robin, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
