On Friday, September 28, 2018, Daniel Eli Gordey, husband, father, son and brother passed away suddenly at the age of 37. Eli was born on June 23 1981, in Athabasca, Alberta. After high school his passion for the outdoors and his willingness to serve led him to begin his working life as a Signaller with the Primary Reserve of the Canadian Armed Forces. Eli also developed a passion for flying and this led him to obtain a private pilot license. In 2006 while at the International Marches in Nijmegen, Netherlands, Eli met Rachel Husband and they started a friendship that endured for the rest of his life. Initially Rachel remained overseas to complete her nursing degree and Eli concurently transferred to the Regular Force that July and achieved his dream to be a Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot on November 8, 2013. Eli and Rachel were married on July 4, 2009 and they set up their home in Edmonton, Alberta. Their daughter Violet was born June 8, 2015 and Thomas was born two years later on 30 June 2017. An introspective man, Eli enjoyed interacting with nature’s beauty and the creatures and plants that Violet and Thomas could find. Together they studied the pattern of the ants, discovered the scent of lavender and watched the overhead passing of the International Space Station. Later, Eli hoped to serve as a Public Affairs Officer. He earned great praise for his contribution as the Unit Public Affairs Representative for 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron and when called upon, Acting 19 Wing Public Affairs Officer. Eli will be forever remembered by Rachel, Violet and Thomas, his mother Judy Gordey, father Gary Gordey, sister Erin Gordey and by the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces who had the honour of serving with him.
