OBITUARIO

Douglas Arthur Houston

3 junio , 195630 septiembre , 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas announce his sudden and unexpected passing. He leaves behind his best friend, hunting partner, and loving wife of 31 years, Joanne, his children Sarah, Jason, Jodi, Niki, Mathew, and Courtney.

He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren Abigael, Charlotte, Oliver, Landon, Coby, Reid, Kinlie, and Tessa. He is fondly remembered by his sisters Hillary (Lindsey), Jane (Steve), niece, nephews, and great niece.

Doug served in the military from 1976-2007 retiring in Comox. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved fishing and hunting with his wife was his passion. When not doing that Doug loves gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, telling jokes, or rounding up his cats.

His drive by jokes will be sorely missed by many in the local community.

As per Doug’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at 1850 Robb Ave, Comox, BC on Friday Oct 11 from 4-8pm. Donations in Douglas’ memory can be made to Kitty Cat P.A.L.S, www.kittycatpals.com, 250-941-7257(PALS).

Want to hear a joke about a piece of paper? Never mind...it’s tearable!

The first time we met Doug was in the forestry campground at Fish Pot Lake When as strangers we had all pulled an LEH hunt for moose, the first LEH hunts for that area. We were a motley crew of two civilians, two RCMP officers and two army grunts that first year. I was taken a back when this giant man arrived in our campsite [after we were first grilled by an off duty RCMP officer, you can imagine we were wondering what the heck we were getting into!] In no time at all, we were sharing meals, fuel, hunting stories, equipment and chucking crap at each other, often to the hilarity of the entire camp. When Doug and his partner ran through the bush with a 1/4 of a moose on a furley stretcher I thought I'd seen it all! I was totally wrong! There were many more crazy things that went on over the years. I was thrilled when Joanne joined Doug on the hunt! The best memories were Thanksgiving turkey dinner cooked in a cast iron turkey cooker over a gas stove and served in Doug and Joanne's wall tent.. some of the craziness is not repeatable! We are going to miss the phone calls telling us the hunting stories, the antics, the love and pride Doug had for his wife and family. He loved you all so much! I am including the photo of the Motley Crew. R.I.P. Doug, You and Randy have already scouted out the hunting ground, no doubt <3

Oh man! Doug was BIG and he had a very loud and deep voice that kinda went through your bones. Especially if he was passionate about the subject. He could be a very serious guy, and a very funny guy, but loved by many many people. Joanne, I'm sure you will miss everything you shared with him however, memories don't disappear. Treasure them and share them all with your children and grandchildren, they will love to hear all of them about their Father/Grandfather. He was a pleasure to know and will be missed by so many. Condolences to all of your family, my friend.

Doug was a jewel. He shined so bright. His energy was big, warm and caring. The first time I met him he was at the store I was blown away. He was so charismatic and funny. He talked with love about his family. He also shared his great love for his wife..which was so heartwarming to see as that seems so rare. Doug was a shining light in the mall and our lives. He shared his jokes on the daily but he also shared Joanne and I could then see why his eyes shined for her. It is very sad that he went so quickly and unexpected. And he will leave us joke less..but remembering to smile when we think of him and the great joy he brought to sooo many people.

My dad was always my number one supporter when it came to basketball and field hockey. When I was in school he was at mostly every game and always cheered me on when we lost a game he would tell me it has to go through the entire team before it gets to you its a team loss not a personal loss . Always set me straight with a smile on his face and a hug.

Kinlie was very fond of her papa the day he first held her .. her bum fit in the palm of his hand and that was his pride and joy they played trucks trains and cars and he enjoyed talking to her about air planes and how he used to fix them.. and he was the first person to help her climb the apple tree in the front yard she loved him very much and he will be missed forever and always

Love you dad and miss you so much
Kinlie says love you papa and miss you
