Born in Vancouver in 1941, Doug attended Carleton Elementary School, Gladstone Secondary School, and Killarney Secondary School. He did Grade 13 and attended UBC before beginning his working life. Doug spent the majority of his career in Vancouver working at Kingsway Frozen Foods on Commissioner Street and later in Richmond. He later moved to head office in Burnaby and worked in the Promotions area. He married Susan Berry in the early 1960s and they had 2 daughters, Michele and Lisa. He later remarried (Lin Cain) in 1981. In 1991, Doug and Lin moved to Pender Island where they spent the next 15 years eventually acquiring a partnership in Pender Island Realty. Throughout his life he enjoyed watching sports and playing snooker at the local Legion and golfing. After retiring and moving to Courtenay in 2006, Doug and Lin spent a few years travelling to the Mojave Desert for the winters. Doug and Lin spent a lot of time supporting live music in the Courtenay area. Doug took up singing and, with the support of friends, would take a lot of pleasure getting up to sing in venues around town. Doug is survived by his wife, Lin; daughters Shelly (Alan Olsen) and Lisa (Curtis Robinson); grandchildren Curtis, Branden and Jordan Olsen, Jesse, Dillon and Travis McKee; brother--in-law Arn (Sonia) Berry and 11 great grandchildren.
