Eileen Lois Brennan passed away February 19, 2021 in her 93rd year in Courtenay BC. Eileen was born December 2, 1928 in Lestock, Saskatchewan to William Brennan and Rebecca (Mainland) Brennan. She was pre-deceased by her parents, sister Beth Brennan (2014), brother Richard Brennan (1985) and sister-in-law Betty Brennan (2014). Eileen grew up in rural Saskatchewan during the Depression years before her family relocated to Windsor Ontario when she was in grade 8.
Saskatchewan was especially hard hit in the 1930’s because the economic depression was combined with a drought, which destroyed agriculture, the main economy. Perhaps that is why Eileen became a very strong and smart woman. She worked in a bank then completed her nursing degree. She worked in psychiatric nursing at “The Allan” in Montreal (before the CIA). She worked delivering babies then later saw some of those same children when she was working in the schools with public health in Burnaby, BC. She retired to the Comox Valley where she pursued interests such as sewing, news, politics and crossword puzzles.
Because nursing was a very positive part of her life, Eileen is making a substantial bequest to help nursing students at UBC.
She leaves nephews Neil, Ian, Jim and niece Kathy and their families. At Eileen's request her remains will be interred in Kelliher Saskatchewan.
In memory of Eileen’s passion for puzzles here is an anagram of Eileen’s life: sandstorm tag RN
