Jan was predeceased by his loving wife and best friend of 65 years, Alida (Ada) and by his eldest grandson, Christopher. He is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by his children Ellen (Chris) and Ron (Jenn) and grandchildren Nic, Greg and Kimberly and family in the Netherlands.
Jan immigrated from the Netherlands to Vancouver, B.C. in 1959 with his new bride and baby daughter. After his son was born, Jan's career as a mechanical engineer and project manager, primarily in the pulp and paper industry, took the family to live in the U.S. Texas, Montana and Georgia, always returning to their home in Richmond, B.C.
Jan and Ada travelled the world enjoying new sights and experiences. They also liked walking both the White Rock Pier area and Blackie Spit and loved socializing with their many good friends. Upon retirement, Jan pursued his hobby of model railroading , building a room sized replica of a town and rail yard.
The family would like to thank the caring and competent staff at Glacier View Lodge in Courtenay where Jan spent his last months. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Glacier View Lodge Complex Care Facility Comox Valley (not for profit long term care).
A private family service is planned.
