Joan was born on March 12, 1925 in Yorkshire, England to Charles
Edward Hunt and Ada Nanby. She was their only child. Joan met her
husband, Earl Sheldon Budd (Shelly) in England during World War
II when he was a member of the Canadian Army. After their son,
Roland Sheldon, was born they lived in England for 6 years before
emigrating to Canada to live in Brampton, Ontario for 7 years. They
then moved to Victoria, BC where they lived until Joan moved to
Courtenay where she spent the last 6 years of her life.
Joan was a homemaker who worked briefly at Woodwards. She
loved to play bridge and was a very active member of the Seniors
Centre in Colwood where she volunteered in the kitchen and
participated in their annual dramatic plays. She loved dogs and
helped in her mother’s kennels during the war. Afterwards she
always owned a dog herself until she moved up island.
Joan, also an only child, was predeceased by her parents (only
children) and her husband. She is survived by her son, Roland
(Cindy).
At Joan’s request, she will be cremated and her remains spread at
the First Memorial Cremation Garden ossuary in Victoria. Also at
her request, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers donations
can be made to The Land Conservancy of British Columbia in Joan’s
name.
