It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judy Mae Tarras, beloved wife, partner, mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully departed from this world at the age of 80 on March 13th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born on November 6th, 1943, to Bette and Allan Huget in Toronto, Ontario. Judy liked to refer to herself as an ‘Airforce Brat’ , moving from place to place as a child which inculcated the values of compassion, resilience, and unconditional friendship and love that would define her remarkable life.
Throughout her life, Judy touched the hearts of everyone she met with her friendly spirit and positive nature. She was a pillar of strength and support for her loved ones, always offering a listening ear, comforting words, and unwavering encouragement. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and her smile could brighten even the darkest of days.
Judy and her late husband, Alfred Tarras, were devoted partners and parents; dedicated to raising their three children in a safe, loving home. After meeting, marrying and starting a family in Vancouver, B.C, Judy and Al moved to Powell River where they built forever friendships and recognized the value of small communities. In 1979 Judy and Al landed in the Comox Valley, which they fell in love with immediately, and made a conscious decision to settle and establish roots. Judy built a robust life full of lasting, loving friendships, a successful career at BC Ferries, and left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her in the community.
Judy was blessed with the gift of forming deep connections and nurturing meaningful relationships. Throughout her life journey, she was fortunate to share her love with two incredible partners. For the past 10 years, Jerome Brekke has brought immeasurable joy and companionship into her life. Travel, adventure, merging families and friendships, and unwavering love were the focus of their time together.
As a mother, Judy was a source of unconditional support, guidance, and boundless love to her children, Rick Tarras, Doug Tarras (Angie), and Christina Brandenfels (John). She embraced the joys and challenges of parenthood with grace and determination, instilling in her children the values of kindness, empathy, and resilience that would shape their lives.
In addition to her roles as a partner and mother, Judy was a devoted grandmother, doting on her grandchildren Jared and Connor Tarras, and Soleil, Belle, and Jack Brandenfels, with endless affection and adoration. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating lasting memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
Although Judy may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will forever remain etched in our memories, serving as a beacon of light in times of darkness.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at 888 Wing on Saturday, June 22nd at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you donate to the charity of your choice in honor of Judy’s memory.
Rest in eternal peace, dear Judy. You will always hold a special place in our hearts.
