

Larry Owen Briggs, known affectionately as "Lucky Larry," passed away on December 18, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on May 13, 1933, in New Westminster, British Columbia, Larry was a hard-working, devoted, kind-hearted, beloved, and cherished individual who touched the lives of many. Larry was a true gentlemen.
In 1968, Larry moved to Vancouver Island and later settled in Comox in 1979. His career was marked by dedication and achievement. He purchased The Viking Resort in Bowser in 1968 and worked both for the Department of Fisheries and the Resort. In 1979, he became the assistant manager of the Puntledge Fish Hatchery. After retiring from the fisheries, Larry continued his industrious life as an agent for Chevron Gas Station in Courtenay and Campbell River, retiring finally at the age of 60.
Larry was a devoted husband to his high school sweetheart, Patricia, whom he married on February 27, 1954. Together, they built a loving family, and Larry was a proud father to Dawn (Brian), Dan "Buck" (Jean), and Scott. He was also a cherished grandfather to Kim (Jarett), Tyler (Steph), Ben (Ting Ting) and Leanne (Matt), and a great grandfather to Kinsley, Romi, Hannah, Rhaya, Nolan, Naomi and Rhett. He will also be missed by his brother Dale and his family.
Larry's personal interests and hobbies were many, with a particular fondness for baseball, golf, and hockey. He enjoyed 82 years of lacing up his skates and played hockey in the Comox Valley from 1979 to 2020. It was there that he met his best long time buddy, Fast Eddy Lawson, with whom he shared the same fondness for a cold Lucky.
His personal qualities and legacy are reflected in the lifelong friendships he formed and the invention of the "Seabank splits" with Eddy Lawson. Larry created great memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around the pool, often accompanied by the tunes of Frank Sinatra and the boys.
The family extends special thanks to all the nurses and doctors for their care in the hospital. Larry's last eight months were spent enjoying life at The Views, where the staff provided remarkable devotion and care.
Larry Owen Briggs will be remembered for his kindness, devotion, and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
In honour of Larry's wishes there will be no funeral service.
