Lois (nee McLeod), 85, passed away peacefully Friday July 31st 2020 at home with
family by her side.
Lois, a true coal miner's daughter, was born in Springhill Nova Scotia on December 21st
1934 to Rufus McLeod and Marie Nelson. Springhill is also where she met the love of
her life high school sweetheart Gerald “Joe” Terris. They married on a chilly November
afternoon in 1956 and their adventure began.
In 1977 Joe’s military career took them west to Comox BC. They quickly fell in love with
this little town and decided to firmly plant their roots. They especially loved camping and
fishing with Armor Lake being at the top of the list of places to go. They were loyal and
admired members of the Comox Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion #160 where they
made many lifelong friendships and many, many more memories. Some of Lois’s other
passions included animals, darts, bowling and keeping people laughing. Known as a
voracious reader you could always find a book or two by her side.
Lois, being an ambitious woman, put herself through college right out high school. This
led to a career in banking spanning many years and many provinces. The last 19 years
of her career were spent at CIBC Courtenay until her well deserved retirement in1996.
Lois leaves behind daughters Brenda (Vaughan) and Sandi, son Michael (Noni) and
brothers-in-law Pete Burns and Jim Terris. She was predeceased in death by her
daughter Shelley in 1982, husband Joe and sister Sheila in 2018. She also leaves
behind grandchildren; Jennifer, Jason, Josh, Jeremy, Elisha, Steven, Jarred and
Mathew, great granddaughters Emma and Keira as well as numerous friends…too
many to name here.
A celebration of life will held in the near future with a reception to follow. All are welcome
to attend the Celebration of Lois’s life.
In lieu of flowers those who wish please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
