Nov 24th 1928-March 28 2020
There's a place I'll always cherish
'Neath the blue Atlantic sky
Where the shores down in Cape Breton
Bid the golden sun to rise
Back in dear old Nova Scotia
A place where I was born
Jaime's grandma, Marg MacAskill passed away peacefully at age 91 on Saturday March 28 2020.
Predeceased by her parents, Gilbert and Annie Wilson, first husband Kenneth, second love, John, son, Keith Ross, beloved granddaughter Jaime Lee and her 3 brothers Dewy, Jim and Gib who all meant the world to her.
Despite many losses early in her life Marg was a “glass half full” kind of lady. She enthusiastically felt that her faith and the support of the Jehovah Witness community as well as her love of family and friends contributed to her a full life. She radiated gratitude every day.
Marg will be remembered and missed by her daughter in law, Kristin Bjarnason, her son Benjamin, Kristin’s family, Irene Efford her niece who was like a sister to her and many nieces, nephews, and friends both in Cape Breton, Ontario, and Nanaimo. She happily spent the last 12 years of her life in the Comox Valley.
Marg and I got to be very close in the last several years and I called her Mom much to her delight. We supported each other through our shared loss of Jaime Lee and together we kept Jaime's memories alive
Born in Englishtown, Nova Scotia, Marg’s Cape Breton roots were important to her and she loved to tell tales about her childhood and her musical family.
Marg loved to sing. Nick, Lee, Dana, Ben, Chai, Dale and other family members and friends often came with me to sing with her and visit at the Comox Valley Seniors Village where she lived. Thank-you for your love and support. Marg was appreciative of the time spent with her as we told stories and sang her favorite songs.
I am sure her voice, smile and passionate participation in the sing songs the Seniors Village will be missed. The care and support that she received from all of the staff was exemplary and Marg told me at each visit how fortunate she was to be living there.
I loved to sing along with her to “Song for the Mira”, a shared favourite song.
Well dear Marg, Mom I can hear you singing…’I’ll leave you here now for my journey begins, I’m going to be with them again. You will be with all of your loved ones again.
