Mary Harriet Dougan passed away peacefully on the afternoon of May 9th with her daughter Karen by her side. Mary was born on February 11, 1932 and was the only child of Easton and Lillian Baird (nee Murray). She grew up in Nanaimo, BC and spent her summers in Vancouver with Mary and Ray Scott while her parents fished the west coast. Through her high school years, she worked at Jean Burns and after graduation she became a secretary for B.C.F.P.
She married Garth Donald Dougan on Feb 21, 1953 and moved to Texada Island where Garth was a partner in Dougan Bros. Logging.
Mary and Garth purchased an acreage on Quamichan Lake in Duncan where they raised their three children Gregory Easton, Raymond Scott and Karen Lurana.
Mary became active in Duncan in the curling world in the winter and was a very avid golfer in the summer.
She was captain of the senior ladies at the Cowichan Golf Course and also managed a senior ladies championship or two! She also played bridge and developed lifelong friendships with all she was involved in. She was a sincere and true friend to all who crossed her path. Her kindness and compassion was treasured by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.
Thank you to the staff on the 2nd floor of the Comox Valley Senior’s Village for her gentle care over her 3 year stay.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held late summer of 2023 in Duncan, B.C.
As Mary was a dedicated Vancouver Canucks fan, donations can kindly be made to the Canuck Place. (www.canuckplace.org)
