Ms Mary "Meli’bidu , Meli’tasu" Frances (Robertson, Howard) Scow

Mary was born in Kingcome Inlet British Columbia, Canada. She was raised by her grandparents Mary “Ganadzi” Howard and Berti “Bati” Robertson. Her grandfather passed away and that left her Grandmother Mary to raise her. At some point they moved to Guilford Island till Mary was 11 at which point she was taken away to Alert Bay to go to St. Michael’s (St.Mik’s) Residential School. Mary’s Mother Marjorie “Maggie” Faith Howard died at a young age , it wasn’t till Mary her later years that she was told who her father was, Wilford “Kaye” Dawson . By that time he had already passed away so she never got the chance to meet him in person. She was however relieved to finally find out and tell Marilyn and Jocelynne. During her stay at St.Mike’s Jimmy and 2 friends decided they would run away, they acquired a boat and left Alert Bay, unfortunately the boat sank and none of the 3 were ever found. It was at this time Mary found out Jimmy was not her brother ,he was actually her cousin, the son of her Auntie Emma Howard. Emma would later have 4 other children with James “Jimmy” Webber , Harold “Harry” Webber, Richard “Dickie” Webber ,Emma Jr. Webber and Ernie Webber. Mary also had another Auntie her name was Alice. Aunt Alice married later on in her life and therefore never had any children. Her grandmother Ganadzi became very ill while Mary was at school and since at that time there were no relatives to take her out St.Mike’s she was not allowed to visit her grandmother, it wasn’t too long and her grandmother passed away. Now Mary was basically orphaned , stayed in St.Mike’s till she was old enough to leave. She was only 16. She was taken in by the Seaweed and Henderson families and was gifted a home to live in, in Campbell River. At some point she would meet David Gordon Scow and live in Alert Bay. They weren’t married yet but welcomed their first child a daughter, Geraldine Howard, 1962 (d.1967) . They Married September 7, 1963 and in 1964 welcomed a son David Gary Scow and Jimmy Harold in 1967. Mary would separate from Dave . She would have 3 other daughters Marilyn Pearl Scow 1968,

Jocelynne Ann Scow in 1970 and lastly Marianne Barbra Scow 1988. They would eventually end up in Courtenay where she would call home with the help of Ethel Pearson, till Mary passed away on June 19,2023.

Marilyn (Hien) have 4 children Tiara (Brad),Tanya (Daniel), Jayde (Vincent), Adrian (Tori)

Jocelynne (Lloyd) have 4 children Aaron, Justin (Tricia), Joshua and Tyler .

Mary Frances Scow passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19 surrounded by loved ones.

There will be a Viewing June 29, 10 am

at Piercy's Mt. Washington Funeral Home, 440 England Ave, Courtenay BC

At 11a.m. there will be an informal Celebration of Life Gathering, afterward light refreshments will be provided.

There will be a livestream that can be watched for those that can’t attend .
