Muriel will be dearly missed by her children, Dave (Afona), Dan (Penny), Laurie (Gerry), six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and by her sister and lifelong best friend Gert Robertson.
Muriel was the second daughter of George and Helen Harwood. She was born in Union Bay and lived there for 91 years. In January, 2016 she moved to the Comox Valley Seniors Village where she met and enjoyed the company of many new friends.
Muriel was married to her loving husband Ken for sixty years. Together they were actively involved in the Union Bay Community Club, Fire Department, Credit Union, Historical Society and the United Church. Both Muriel & Ken often commented that Union Bay was the best place in the world and would never consider living anywhere else. Their other favourite place was Hornby Island where they enjoyed many happy years spent with family and friends at the Peters’ Family beach side cabin. Besides being a wonderful wife and homemaker, Muriel competently acted as bookkeeper for husband Ken’s contract log hauling business.
The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the St. Joseph’s Hospital staff (especially nurses Lori & Glenn) and Drs. Gregory & Galik for their wonderful care of Mum. Also, we would like to thank Mum’s many special friends as well as the Comox Valley Seniors Village staff for their caring and support during this difficult time.
A Celebration of Muriel’s Life will be held at the Union Bay Community Hall on Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Muriel’s memory to the Union Bay United Church or a charity of your choice.
