Dennis was born in Winnipeg on May 1, 1943. He was raised in Fisherton, Manitoba, on a farm with his Father Bob, Mother Margaret, and his only sister Ann.
Dennis went to a one room school, Maidstone, for 8 years, then went to High School in Fisher Branch. After graduation he moved to Winnipeg and worked at Eatons for a few years. He then started working in the carpet industry. He moved around for several years, Calgary, Vancouver, Nanaimo, then finally to Campbell River, where he made his permanent home. Dennis made many friends at work and at The Coachman, which became his home away from home. He was fairly devastated when The Coachman closed.
Dennis is survived by his sister Ann O'Malley, niece Kim Truthwaite, nephews Terry and his wife Michelle
Truthwaite and Rob Truthwaite, 3 great nephews Ross Truthwaite, Branden Truthwaite
and Adam Truthwaite. Dennis will be greatly missed by family and many friends he made
over the years, especially in Campbell River.
Denny left the following poem tucked away in his bible for his family and friends to find after he left us.
To those I loved and those who loved me
When I’m gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to do.
You musn’t tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you all my love.
You can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for all the love each of you have shown.
But now it’s time I travelled on alone.
So grieve awhile for me, if grieve you must.
Then let your grief be comforted with trust.
It is only for awhile that we must part.
So bless the memories with your heart.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me, I will be near .
And if you listen with your heart,
You will feel all my love around you, soft and clear.
And then , when you must, come the way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and say,
Welcome home.
