It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ruth Martha Morrison (nee Malich), who passed away peacefully in the Comox Valley on February 24th, 2025, at the age of 88. Ruth was born in Munsterberg, Germany, on June 25th, 1936, and was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ray in 2024.
Ruth is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Kim Morrison (Wendy) and Brian Morrison (Dawn), her cherished grandchildren, Alex, Jaime, and Stuart, and her four great-grandchildren, Iona, Andriy, Innis, and Marko. Ruth’s family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind countless memories of love and devotion.
Born in Germany during a difficult era, her three siblings and mother reunited with their father and finally settled in Western Germany in 1945. She formed lifelong friendships in both Rotfelden and Karlsruhe Germany. She met Ray in 1958, married and relocated to Canada. They lived in Edmonton, Belleville and Lahr, Germany before finally settling in Comox, BC, where they put down roots for over 40 years.
In Canada, Ruth brought with her a skill for tailoring that she had learned in Germany. She opened her own tailoring business, Highland Alterations from 1982 to 1995. Ruth then enjoyed her time at the Comox Menswear Shop for 17 years, where she was renowned for her skill in tailoring men’s suits and mentoring other seamstresses.
Passionate about travel, she often recounted stories from her travels to California, Europe and various parts of Canada. One memorable tale involved camping in Monaco, where her tent was blown over by extremely strong winds. Ruth often returned to Germany to visit family, and she also warmly hosted international family members at her home in Canada.
Having a deep love for nature, animals, and gardening, her backyard was her sanctuary. She took great pride in hosting garden parties each June, when her garden was in full bloom. She enjoyed long daily walks, often accompanied by her German Shepherd, Duke, or her neighbor's dog, Kyra. Ruth was an avid supporter of the SPCA and had a lifelong love for birds, cats, and dogs.
Ruth and Ray enjoyed hosting events in Germany and Canada which ended with lasting bonds with many friends, including one of her closest neighbors, whom she met while gardening with Duke.
Ruth lived a long, fulfilling life, surrounded by family in her final moments. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the tender care by Dr Gee and the many other professional medical teams. Also to the special people of Classic Life Care Comox Valley, the many community neighbours, and her special friend Carol for their enduring support during Ruth's final years.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, an organization dear to Ruth’s heart.
