It is with great sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved mother, nanny, and friend, Tammy Hudson Sloan. Tammy passed way in the loving arms of her children July 26, 2017. Tammy was born in Victoria, BC and spent her younger years as a military brat before settling in Courtenay and starting a family.
Over the years, Tammy worked for numerous pubs, the Griffin, the old Lorne Hotel, and the Arbutus, before pursuing a career as a care aid at St. Joseph’s hospital. During her time working for the hospital Tammy became very involved as an HEU Shop Steward and an executive chair member. Tammy felt very strongly about the importance of her union and went above and beyond to represent them when she could. This stemmed from her extreme passion for politics, no matter where she was if there was a TV nearby she was trying to get onto CNN. When Tammy wasn’t at work, watching CNN, or cheering for Trump, or doing union business she could be found searching out deals at garage sales with her daughter or spending time being a Nanny to her three grandsons Eli, Jaxxton, and Landen who she adored. Tammy will be remembered for her resiliency. Despite being plagued with numerous health issues throughout her short life including type 1 diabetes, a kidney and pancreas transplant, and most recent open heart surgery to fix a valve. Tammy met each day with a smile on her face. She considered the day of her transplant her second birthday and lived life to the fullest as she considered it, “borrowed time”. It would have been 21 yrs.
Tamre got to spend her last 6 months with her son Travis who she watched turn his life around. From the tragic passing of his loving girlfriend Heather White, she watched him turn 30, get sober, and smile again. She is survived by her loving children, daughter Julie (Brian) and son Travis, grandchildren Eli, Jaxxton, and Landon, parents Thomas and Shirley Sloan, brother John (Linda), sister Patti (Gary), niece Kristi, nephew Michael and great niece Olivia. She also leaves behind her best friends Joy, Melody, Marlene, and Ricky. She cherished these friendships dearly. A celebration of life will be on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Kin Beach I know from 1pm to 8pm with eulogy being read at 3pm followed by a balloon release. Guests are asked to bring a dish to share as it will be a potluck and to wear something lime green as that was her favorite color. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Kidney Foundation in her name.
